Fête de la Musique – Celebrating Community & Culture

BLOW THAT WHISTLE REMKO!

Get set to let your hair down when the world’s largest international live music event – Fête de la Musique – returns to Brisbane for the third year running Monday 21 June 2010.

Brisbane City Council, under the energetic direction of it’s best yet, ‘Can Do’ Lord Mayor, Campbell Newman, is extremely supportive of musicians in their contribution to the development of culture in Australia,

In 2008 and 2009 Brisbane’s 150th anniversary year it was my joy to be city producer and artists coordinator of the excellent French musical phenomenon Fête de la Musique, which is held on the day of the solstice each year, June 21. What started out as a local event in Paris has now spread to over 350 cities around the globe.

The idea is simple. First offer musicians a spot on a street corner, in a mall, an arcade, on a city cat, down by the water, in a park or pavilion, a hospital or school and secondly provide them the support of a microphone and amplification, publicity and promotion and complete any permissions paperwork on their behalf so that they can concentrate on rehearsing and freely and spontaneously entertaining those at hand And those who seek them out on the day.

It works if the city itself invests in its people, as it has in Brisbane where the council seized the opportunity to showcase their talented performers. Consequently Fête has, in two short years gained a fabulous reputation for the quality and passion of its artists and their performances.

This is above all a popular Fête and any musician whether amateur or professional is invited to perform. They have an opportunity to communicate with an audience they may otherwise never connect with and share a special moment through music.

Fête de la Musique is a live music presentation that will not only enliven your day but also help music to continue to grow, change shape, define, enrich and ennoble both society and life.

Fête has entered it’s three week countdown.
