MozartWolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791) reputation for producing superb music has only grown since his early death, its content and form balancing each other in a unity of style that is constant and captivating. His feeling for form and beauty of sound combined with fantasy and poetry in music means that the legacy of his works is wide ranging in its influences. For this concert Kathryn Selby also an accomplished pianist, will play a Mozart concerto, a form of music that came of age during his lifetime.

FELIX MENDELLSOHNThe orchestra will also be playing the Italian Symphony by popular German Romantic era composer Felix Mendelssohn (1809-1847). This stunning piece of music will take you on a tour of the colour and atmosphere of Italy, which he described as a place that provided him with great happiness. Writing to his family he shared his thoughts “The Italian symphony is making great progress. It will be the jolliest piece I have ever done, especially the last movement. I have not found anything for the slow movement yet, and I think that I will save that for Naples.”

The Italian Symphony has enjoyed great success since Mendelssohn conducted its debut himself in London in May 1833 at a London Philharmonic Society concert – Enjoy A Little Lunch Music: Mozart & Mendelssohn at City Recital Hall, Angel Place Sydney – 22nd August 2014 at 12:30 pm BOOKINGS
