At the Melbourne Antiques Fair from 24 – 28 April, the largest event of its kind in the country, they will feature a stand with a display drawn from the RSL’s collection of memorabilia. It will commemorates the Spirit of ANZAC and celebrates the role of our soldiers and fallen heroes. On ANZAC day itself, Thursday 25 April, the fair will open at 1pm as a sign of respect to our armed forces and entry will be free to all RSL members. The diversity and range of dealers, collectors, specialist societies and interest groups who come together for this very special show is testament to a public that is deeply informed, discerning and passionate about art and antiques.
As the National Gallery of Victoria Director Tony Ellwood said recently art and antiques ‘are that reference point to which we refer, often unconsciously, and which provide the foundation for culture in our lives. They are as relevant today as they ever were and I would suggest, without wishing to offend our interstate friends, that Melbourne is the centre of the antiques market in Australia’.
No matter what your budget or taste, there will be a wide range of specialty pieces to suit everyone.
