Body Types Part One – Glamour Is Not A Size, It’s A Shape!

In this wonderful world of ours, we come in all shapes and sizes.

While sometimes we are not happy about this, one thing is certain, we can always look our best.

With a few tips and tricks it’s easy to go from average to amazing!

To quote Coco Chanel “Fashion is architecture: it is a matter of proportions”

The one thing to remember, no matter what your height or width, always dress for your body shape.

Whether you are a size 4 or 24 you will still have a shape.

Learn the simple rules for your shape and you will nail it every time.

First let’s go through the four main body types; there can be variations, but generally it should be fairly easy to determine what you are.

Grab a tape measure and start by measuring yourself across the bust, then under the bust.

Followed by the waist, the hips and the mid thigh.

Record your figure, because its shape is far more important than your dress size.

Next take a look at your gorgeous self in a full length mirror, just wearing underwear.

This way you can get a better sense of what shape you really are.

Which of the following do you imagine yourself to be?

The Apple – Usually Apples have good legs.

There is not much difference between under bust and waist, and often a larger tummy area.

The Pear

Hips and thighs will be the largest measurements.

Quite often a Pear will have a small bust, narrow shoulders and heavier legs.

Think Kristen Davis.

The Hourglass

The bust and hips will have the largest measurement and quite a small waist.

Raquel Welch is a perfect example of the Hourglass.

The Column – Sometimes know as Rectangle.

Usually shoulders and hips are the same width with little definition at the waist.

Quite often a column will have long legs and have an athletic look.

Nicole Kidman is a classic column.

If you are confused, try using a liquid chalk pen (available from many stationary stores).

This can be wiped off mirrors using a window cleaner.

If you think you are an hourglass, draw that image on the mirror; large enough to fit your body in.

Can you see the curves and defined waist?

You get the idea!

Once you have ascertained your shape then its time to make it work for you!

Over the next few weeks, I will go through each body type separately, and offer tips and tricks for dressing to you shape.

Getting your body shape right, alongside colour analysis can change you into a whole different person, one you may have never discovered.

Quite often many of us have been choosing the wrong pieces without even realising.

It is only when we fully understand our personal body shape, that we can show off our fabulous assets.

Everyone has them, they just need to be uncovered.

For each unique body type there are a set of rules that can make shopping so much easier and less frustrating.

Think about when you do a grocery shop.

Most of us would write a list before heading off to the supermarket so as to buy the right groceries.

The same can be done for clothes.

Things on this list may include colours, patterns, hem length and trouser type, to name a few.
