This weekend is the annual Spring Plant Sale at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Melbourne. The plants have all been especially cultivated for the event by the Growing Friends Group, which holds two public plant sales each year. These are the only opportunities for members of the public to buy rare plants propagated from Royal Botanic Gardens stock and not necessarily available at commercial nurseries.
The Royal Botanic Gardens in South Yarra, Melbourne plays a leading role in the conservation of plants through biodiversity research, programs to protect rare and threatened plants, and the study of habitats.
The organisation encompasses two diverse sites at its Melbourne and Cranbourne locations, including the National Herbarium of Victoria, the State Botanical Collection and the Australian Research Centre for Urban Ecology.
The Sale Catalogue is available now on the Friends’ website. This means that like others, you can arrive prepared with your shopping list. Friends of the gardens receive a ‘discount’.
