CafeSmart 2015 – Drink Coffee Do Good Friday 7th August 2015

Adam Robinson StreetSmartRecently at The Culture Concept Circle we had a letter from Adam Robinson founder and Director of StreetSmart Australia.

Adam and his team take action against homelessness, raising funds and awareness for small ‘hard to reach’ grassroots services and projects.

Streetsmart Australia believes everyone should have a safe and secure place to call home.

Supported by sponsors and philanthropists who cover all their operating costs, all the funds they raise are applied to grassroots service organisations.

They are at the coal face of helping those experiencing homelessness.

This winter has been bitterly cold in Australia and providing people with a warming meal, drink, a blanket, shelter, medical and mental health assistance and a bed to sleep in is more than a challenge.

The annual CafeSmart initiative for 2015 is to be held next Friday 7th August and they need all our support!

On one day of the year cafes donate $1 per coffee sold.

They invite coffee drinkers to visit participating cafes and ‘drink coffee do good’

In 2014 415 cafes and 20 Coffee Roasters raised $120,000 to fund 91 community projects.

Help them make it more in 2015.

Adam Robinson said…

Cafesmart 2015 We have 350 fabulously, community minded cafe’s all signed up for this year’s CafeSmart and more are joining every day.

These cafe’s are all small businesses who pledge to donate $1 from every coffee they sell on the day – I reckon that’s an outstanding effort and great community support.

100% of these funds will go towards funding grassroots homeless services in the region or suburb where the funds are raised.

Last year we raised and distributed $120,000 to 91 organisations – that was amazing – but we need to beat it this year.

Yesterday on ABC Radio there was a disturbing report on an increase in the number of older women experiencing homelessness, and how they often stay on public transport to sleep, stay warm and sleep.

There is a chronic lack of emergency and affordable housing across our communities – listen to the ABC report now.

Unfortunately there is no lack of these stories in the media right now.

We have a crisis and this is Australia in 2015.

Smiling CoffeeIt’s not good enough and we need to take action now.

What you can you do to help to make CafeSmart the biggest yet…

The funding we raise through CafeSmart allows smaller organisations to respond to some of the needs of people experiencing homelessness.

We also work to prevent people falling into this situation.

Get along there, arrange to meet colleagues or friends and support the day.

CafeSmart wouldn’t happen without all our sponsors, coffee roasters and cafes so I’d like to say a huge personal ‘thank you’ to everyone involved.

It really is a big community effort with over 375 businesses involved, plus thousands of staff and customers – how good is that!’til next time…
