Happy 2016, my lovely readers!
I’m excited to be back in Fashion Elixir mode for this, a brand new year.
So what does 2016 hold in the world of fashion I hear you ask?
Well, like anything in life nothing is as certain as change, and we all know that’s what the sartorial world loves, diversity in all it’s aspects.
This year sees a major shake up at one of my favourite houses, the divine Lanvin, Paris.
The news in October of 2015 that Alber Elbaz was departing the label after 14 years at the helm caused shock waves through the fashion world.
This was mainly due to the fact, as stated by Elbaz, it was “the decision of the company’s majority shareholders”.
Personally I love his aesthetic and can’t wait to see what he does next.
Obviously Lanvin felt it was time, but I feel he was the perfect fit and Jeanne Lanvin would have adored him!
And after nine years at the helm, Alessandro Michele replaced Frida Giannini at Gucci.
Who could be next?
I can’t wait to see the April edition of Australian Vogue.
The inimitable Mario Testino is guest editing this issue.
Luscious Lara Stone is the girl of the month, so get ready for some amazing visuals!
Pantone has announced it’s shade for 2016, which for the first time is a blending of two shades Rose Quartz and Serenity.
The warm embracing rose tone of Rose Quartz pared with a cooler tranquil blue of Serenity is a strong departure for last years rich spiced wine shade of Marsala.
Last year saw the introduction of rose gold accessories in the market place, so in a way it feels like a natural progression.
Personally I find both these shades blissful. I can see them working beautifully with interiors and in fashion.
It’s also awards season, so the red carpet will be awash with gowns of all fabrics and hues. First up was the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards.
There were a few stunners on this night, and I had three favourite looks.
First is Brie Larson, who was a winner in more ways than one on the night.
Not only did she take out Most Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor for her role in “Room”, she was best dressed in my humble opinion.
Her look was straight off Atelier Versace Spring 2016 runway.
A gorgeous powder blue gown showing just the right amount of skin, was oh so flattering and age appropriate for this young lady. Teamed with Roger Vivier heels and, always a girls best friend, Tiffany diamonds her look was perfection!
Always love to see Kate Winslet at awards night.
She knows exactly what works on her sexy curves, and the forest green Armani didn’t disappoint.
Neil Lane diamonds and simple sleek hair finished her polished style beautifully.
Finally Rachel McAdam was divine in Elie Saab. Black Swiss embroidered lace in a tulip design over nude lining and a full skirt left us gasping for more.
With Valentines Day coming up fast, stay tuned for my piece on alluring lingerie and how to choose the perfect piece for every occasion.
Having just returned from a Christmas trip to Italy, stay tuned for all things Milan and the ski town of Cortina.
If you are a shoe lover, I’ll be checking out the fabulous hand made shoes by the talented Andrew McDonald of Sydney’s iconic Strand Arcade.
On the subject of Sydney fashion, Paddington in the Eastern Suburbs is seeing a fashion revival after a few years of retail wilderness. Oxford Street is buzzing again I’m happy to say.
It was always a favourite shopping mecca when I was a teenager, Paddington Markets on a Saturday being a great spot to discover new, upcoming designers.
I’ll be visiting Reuze Vintage, one of my fave recycled designer fashion stores, Parlour X Sydney’s “go to” designer hub, and the fabulous Mariam Seddiq, who has just opened her first boutique on this iconic strip.
Things are certainly looking up for this sartorial spot.
Bendigo Art Gallery has another fashion coupe with the Marilyn Monroe exhibition starting March 5th till July 10th. A giant statue of her has just been installed in the middle of the city, causing quite a stir.
Around 100 of the stars costumes, personal clothing items and effects will be on show. As with the Grace Kelly Exhibition I was able to enjoy back in 2012, I can’t wait to see the pieces.
It always helps to put into true perspective, the dimensions of the body, so I’ll be fascinated to see the “true” Marilyn, so to speak.
There will be more travel, fashion tips and trends that pop up over the next twelve months. So my lovely readers, will join me, for this my fourth year of Fashion Elixir.
I love writing it, so I do hope you love reading it!
