Rarely performed, the Pinchgut Opera’s Australian premiere of Giasone by Italian composer Francesco Cavalli (1602-1676) will be all ‘at once bawdy and beautiful – showcasing the impressive talent of rising international superstar, David Hansen, in the title role. Oh, and it’s a little bit naughty…one man, two women, three times the trouble!
The Pinchgut Opera are renowned for producing rare operas of great beauty, offering Australian audiences a different experience of opera while showcasing Australian talent, performing these lesser-known masterpieces in an intimate venue with an excellent acoustic. Cavalli’s Giasone was the most frequently performed opera of the seventeenth century and took its plot from Greek mythology, for that of Jason and his hero’s quest, a mission impossible to find the magical Golden Fleece.
