If The Shoe Fits! – Regina Evans Utopia of the Sole

On my travels in my own wonderful neighbourhood, recently I discovered a delectable dressing room filled with sumptuous, shoes, stockings and scarves.

Nestled on the corner of Crown and Davies Streets at the Parisian end of Surry Hills, in Sydney’s inner city, a new gem has been unearthed, The Cook His Wife & Her Shoes

Owned, and lovingly cared for by Regina Evans (the wife), a woman who understands local and international style, this boutique is dedicated to providing the finishing touch to any and every outfit.

At the tender age of 18, Regina made a lay-bye of a pair of $500 shoes. At a time when the average wage was around $150 a week, this was a huge commitment. For her it was the quality that caught her eye and although it took weeks to pay them off it was well worth it.

It was all about the shoe, and it still is.

After 20 years in retail and visual merchandising, then focusing on hospitality so she could spend more time with her husband (the cook), she felt it was time to pursue her passion.

With his support she went for it.

Luckily the very first shop they viewed felt exactly right, it was meant to be.

With creative touches that come from the heart The Cook His Wife & Her Shoes was born.

Deciding on labels to carry was the easy part, cherry picking from Chie Mihara, shoes designed by a woman for women, and Hoss Intropia another unique Spanish house, Regina had a very clear vision.

Funky yet feminine, with classic lines and referencing vintage (1930’s in particular) style . She is filling a hole in the market for women in their mid to late 20’s onwards that know quality, style and individuality when they see it.

Women who have their own sense of fashion and are looking for something a little different, not cookie cutter style.

When asked about her passion, Regina says “It’s all about the shoe. I have shoes from 15 years ago that I still love, we need that constant in our lives”

No arguments from me. I am the lady who carted a pair of watermelon pink suede heels, that I still have, through Europe (still in their box, mind you) while backpacking, so Regina is a woman after my own heart!

Chie Mihara, features an anatomical foot bed specifically designed to accommodate and caress the foot.

Launched at Elda in Spain in January 2002, she now has over 1000 clients worldwide including Bergdorf Goodman in the USA, Selfridges in London UK, and Le Bon Marche in Paris, France.

Now we are lucky enough to get our hands on these international treads right here as Regina is one of only four stores in Sydney that stock this divine brand.

In another individual touch, Regina has been able to refine her choice of colours and skins in certain styles, so your bound to get a true original!

Ask her about it, such a fun idea!

Hoss Intropia, is a unique range. With 18 years in the fashion industry, they have recently branched out into footwear. From the outset this company has had a culture of responsibility. This includes a staff of 90% women, flexible work hours and continuous employee training.

The collection is fresh and modern, while being highly accessible to the discerning client who is not one for fads. Also their butter soft leather ballet flats are to die for, too divine for words!!

Regina is waiting on her first shipment from the fabulous Australian label Nat Sui, and next year will be stocking Pura Lopez and Repetto.

Can’t wait for those babies to arrive!

The boutique also stocks a range of fabulous foot creams, panty hose and sox. Esenza pura, is the decadent range of scrubs, softening and cooling foot creams, guaranteed to soothe those tootsies after a hard day pounding the pavement.

Made in Healesville, Victoria, they are a must as we come out of winter. No unsightly cracked heels in those fab new sandals!

Osma and Transparenze are the two beautiful ranges of Italian socks, knee highs and pantyhose available here. Very sweet and a little bit sexy, something for everyone.

Vintage scarves are too divine, and can lift any ensemble. Not just worn around the neck, tied casually to a handbag, can look oh so chic. You will never bump into another like it, these are one off classics.

A fabulous range of shoe related books are on offer, so even if you don’t walk out with a pair of shoes (I dare you not too!), a tome to take home is perfect. Maybe drop by with a loved one and leave a hint for a gift.

If your partner doesn’t trust his or her instincts in the shoe department, reading material and foot cream is always a safe bet.

Regina will be offering the opportunity to book private shopping experiences for you and your friends, how dreamy!  Who wouldn’t want to spend a few hours with their besties surrounded by shoes?

It would be a great part of a sophisticated hens afternoon. Champagne and shoes, how chic!! Maybe even pick up shoes for the wedding party, after all you need something new, as the saying goes (old, new, borrowed, blue).

Open 7 days, Regina is dedicated to shoes and service. You will feel welcome and pampered in her utopia of sole.

Pop in and float out of The Cook His Wife & Her Shoes and you’ll feel like your walking on sunshine!
