The Very Thought of You and To Say Goodbye are just two of the thirty very poignant defining tracks by that late great lady who championed the easy graceful style of jazz Janet Seidel (1955- 2017) on her album of music The Art of Lounge, a 20th Anniversary CD.
For those who remember the many spectacular magical moments spent in concert with Janet and her wonderful wing men her brother David Seidel (bass) and Chuck Morgan (guitar/ukele, this is a very special and affectionate remembrance of Australia’s 1st lady of Jazz.
The Janet Seidel Trio were known and loved internationally. She loved the crowd, admired the way they listened attentively and were always appreciative through thunderous applause.
They expressed their appreciation for her wonderful talent, her considerable abilities and her lovely lovely voice, which was always agile, rich and wondrously alive as she honoured the music of the composers whose very special tunes she sang.
Janet Seidel was working on the final tracks for this album just prior to her unexpected death in August of this year.
However it won’t be the last we hear of Janet. Her brother David, Chuck and her family and friends want to keep her jazz legacy alive. They have announced there will be future releases of previously unissued tracks.
Janet’s warm, soft, sophisticated smooth vocal style was also much admired in England where she toured often, including London drummer Cyril Bevan in the countless club dates up and down the countryside they enjoyed, as well as in Scotland and on the Isle of Wight.
Volume One is smooth and silky and in her best sultry style, while Volume Two will have you wanting to break out and dance up a storm.
Janet always had the ability to lull you almost into a dreamlike trance with her sometimes soulful but always sweet sounds and then quite suddenly she would take you on a new adventure in style and substance.
As her brother David said recently “Twenty years ago, these tracks represented a labour of love for us. Recorded in various sessions, the tracks were typically spontaneous, joyous takes in an atmosphere of relaxed collaboration with musical friends. Thanks to everyone who helped make the Art of Lounge series a landmark in Janet’s discography. She made us all proud” he said.
Taking a Sentimental Journey with Janet Seidel for Xmas 2017 is an endless treat, as she sashays smoothly across borders, embracing different and diverse musical styles while continuing to captivate many more hearts.
We will all say it’s wonderful, s’marvellous and most certainly a fitting legacy for one truly fabulous lady I feel privileged to have known.
