So it’s that time of year again.
Christmas decorations are out in all the shopping malls and if you are anything like me the mere thought of holiday shopping just seems to have snuck up way to fast for my liking!
Every year it is the same, we seem to just celebrate Easter, then it’s all tinsel and pudding and I’m left thinking surely I skipped a month!
Well, unless I missed something there is no mystical 30 days between November and December that someone forgot to tell me about.
So the best thing for it is get out there and shop!
Where to start, I hear you ask.
We have so much choice these days sometimes I don’t know if it is a good or a bad thing. It can become so confusing, but organisation is the key and lists are your best friend.
Start by working out your budget, and stick to it.
Personally, I feel Birthdays are more special than Christmas and buy accordingly.
Make a list of people to buy for, this may be few or many depending on the size of your family.
If you have a large family consider doing Kris Kringle.
Do a random draw of names and change it every year so you aren’t always buying for the same person. By doing this your budget could be bigger, therefore allowing a more indulgent gift.
Just recently I was browsing the gorgeous Queen Victoria Building located on Sydney’s George Street.
With a stunning christmas tree soaring to the roof of this iconic building, it’s hard not to feel festive in this historical space.
I just loved Australian one stop make-up shop Mecca Cosmetics divine new store Mecca Maxima.
It looks just like a christmas bauble, bright and shiny.
My picks from here are the Marc Jacobs Daisy roller ball trio of perfumes. At AUD$49 they are a steal, and fabulous to pop in a hand bag or take travelling.
For the girls who love lipstick there’s the NARS Steven Klein killer heels mini lipstick set for AUD$72.
A set of five shades, there is something to suit everyones style.
Or your recipient might like a set of make-up brushes by KIT cosmetics at just AUD$50, five full size face and eye make-up brushes. It’s a fabulous choice for someone getting their cosmetic kit together.
If your searching for a more filling gift, why not try Zumbo Macarons.
I have done the taste test and can quite honestly say that they are the best in town!
Why not team a gorgeous mixed box of these tasty treats with a beautiful selection of teas from our homegrown brew T2. Not all presents are made to last but they should always be enjoyed!
My favourite blend is French Earl Grey.
All are fabulous and great for a range of age groups.
For fabulous jewellery of the costume style, I just adore Mazal in Westfield Sydney.
I always find just the right piece for a gift and maybe a small piece for me too!
For a one stop online shop you can’t go past Hard to Find.
There is something for absolutely everyone here.
From homewares to jewellery, toys and prints, clothes and accessories.
If you can’t find it here, it probably isn’t worth having.
Just try and tear yourself away with one purchase!
Top 3 by design is a fabulous concept store that stocks products chosen for their merit of design.
For that design freak or just hard to impress friend, this is the shop to start at.
For the lowdown on books for kids, just check out Rose Niland’s pics, she is on the money.
Movie vouchers, magazine subscriptions and gift cards are always a crowd pleaser.
Must say that one of my favourite things is a magazine arriving every month for a year. It’s wonderful to have a surprise in the mail.
Lingerie is always a winner for the lady in your life.
All budgets can be catered for too. If money is no object why not try a private styling session at Agent Provocateur, sexy and decadent.
Middle of the road but still up there on style is the Dita Von Teese range.
Well priced with a pin up girl vibe.
If you’re on a tight budget, Wild Hearts by Collette Dinnigan at Target is a winner.
Romantic prints and sweet lace abound.
For the man in your life why not try Kit and Ace.
Their cashmere blend T-shirts are classy and fabulous to the touch.
If money is no object sunglasses or a beautiful watch are the perfect gift.
If he loves music why not tickets to see his favourite band, or maybe to a sports event.
For the fashionista how about a pair of bespoke leather shoes. Andrew McDonald in Sydney’s Strand arcade is a master shoe maker.
What I love about his designs is that they have that worn in rock star look about them.
Super cool in my book!
So there you have it, some gift ideas for this year.
But I can’t leave without suggesting a dress for New Years Eve.
If I was on a roof top drinking vintage Veuve Clicquot rose` with a killer view I might just slip into this little number by Lover the Label.
I just adore the “Mia twist” dress in black lace with nude lining.
Pared with these fabulous Stuart Weitzman “Tootsie d’Orsay” pumps I’d be ready to dance the night away and feeling a million dollars!
Whatever your choice of gifts, the most important thing is being surrounded by those people close to your heart, that is the best gift ever.
