My Top Emmy Look’s for 2013 – Jo Bayley, Fashion Elixir

Award ceremonies are fraught with danger.

Do celebrities play it safe, thus providing a rather boring red carpet, or do they live on the edge and risk the wrath of fashion police everywhere?

This year I think the answer was to play it safe, but it wasn’t all boring.

This week I take a look at my favourite choices.

My hands down best look this year was Australia’s own darling Rose Byrne.

Now Rose could make a paper bag look amazing, but she chose to wear one of the most popular colours of the night, pink.

Not just any pink, but the most divine shade of blush.

Her Calvin Klein two piece was sublime.

So on trend with a hint of midriff, it showed off her fabulous figure to perfection.

Teamed with a Jimmy Choo clutch and Charlotte Olympia heels, and coiffed with magical marcel waves, she ticked every box.

A winner in the fashion stakes.

Next up, I was impressed with Kiernan Shipka, who plays Sally Draper in Mad Men.

Dressed by Delpozo, it was so age appropriate.

A sweet scoop neck, cap sleeves and a mid-calf hemline were all look du jour for the 13 year old starlet.

Where it got interesting was the sheer overlay on the skirt finished with embroidered flowers, and the beautiful painted flowers on the bodice.

To finish, cute gold strappy sandals and a casual ponytail.

Just lovely.

Morena Baccarin who plays Jessica Brody on Homeland, shone in Alexander McQueen.

Heavily pregnant, the stunning brunette, chose an empire line chiffon gown with flowing skirt and jewelled details.

A sumptuous shade of red was the perfect choice for her exquisite olive skin.

A soft up style and silver clutch was all that was needed for a great finish. Her look was faultless.

Another look that impressed me was Carrie Preston from True Blood.

Her pale blush gown had a retro feel.

Strapless with black piping, the black buttons all the way down her back were a sexy touch.

Gorgeous drop earrings were all that was needed to finish this refined look.

Julianne Hough looked angelic in an ice blue, gossamer gown by British designer Jenny Packham.

This was a brave choice as the bottom half of the dress was sheer.

The beading was divine, and I have the feeling that in the flesh, it would have been much more striking than in print.

Jenny Packham has also dressed Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge on a few occasions.

She uses stunning fabrics and superb silhouettes. Look out for her designs at many award ceremonies to come.

Last, but certainly not least is Sofia Vergara.

She is one sexy lady! Voluptuous in Vera Wang, she rocked the fishtail as only she can.

Yes she goes for this silhouette time and again, but as one Sydney stylist quipped “If I looked this good in a fishtail. I’d be wearing it to do my grocery shopping!”

Stunning red lace, deep V in back and front, she knows how to sizzle.

Simple hair kept the look from being too overdone.

So there you have it, my favourites!

Lets see what future ceremonies bring.

Personally, I love a bit of drama and hope there are a few more faux pas. After all lives are not perfect.
