Out & About – Festive Arts & Music Scene in Sydney

The Art Gallery Society of NSW is something anyone can join. They are celebrating their 60th anniversary in 2013, founded one year after watercolourist JJ Hilder recorded his impressions of the Sydney gallery. They have a music that resonates series and on Sunday 24th November at 7pm they will celebrate Italian 17th century music ‘replete in all its glorious pathos and hilarity’. Miriam Allan and members of the Orchestra of the Antipodes provide delectable delights from the next Pinchgut Opera production, Giasone. Because it is held at the Art Gallery of NSW they also offer an opportunity for you to see the current show on offer. You can ‘stroll through the spectacular landscapes, epic stories and diverse peoples on display including most expansive historical survey of American Art ever presented in Australia, from the colonial era to the mid 20th century.

The New Music Network presents the Peggy Glanville-Hicks Address each year and guest speakers deliver their ideas relating to the creation and performance of Australian music in the context of our society and culture. This year the guest speaker is Genevieve Lacey a recorder virtuoso. It is FREE and will be held in Sydney on Monday 25 November and in Melbourne on Wednesday 27 November. The Pinchgut Opera production of Giasone starring David Hansen, commences on December 4, until December 9 at the Angel Place Recital Centre.
