The Oscars – Who Wore It Best 2014 by Jo Bayley

Sunday March 2nd (Monday morning EST) saw the Dolby Theatre, located on Hollywood Boulevard, host the 86th Academy Awards Ceremony.

It was a wet scene on the red carpet, but glamour prevailed and it was a designers dream.

There were no bad looks this year, only a few boring ones.

Here are my best dressed for 2014.

It seemed this years brief was sheer, and taking on the challenge and winning, not only in the fashion stakes, was our elegant Cate Blanchett wearing Armani Prive`.

Announced as Best Actress for her role in “Blue Jasmine”, Cate took to the stage in an exquisitely beaded with Swarovski crystals, nude toned gown.

Off set perfectly by divine drop earrings, subtle make up and “Veronica Lake” style hair, Cate made history as the first Australian to receive 2 Oscars for Best Actress in a leading role.

Next up in shimmering Elie Saab was the magnificent Angelina Jolie.

Her make up, hair and Robert Procop jewellery were stunning, and seeing the dress on stage I was sold.

In photographs I felt it looked a little blousey and full around the bust.

However, when she escorted the stylish Sidney Poitier onto the stage to present an award, it came into it’s own.

Jolie looked like a diaphanous queen.

Truly breathtaking.

Charlize Theron is one of the best dressed women in Hollywood, and this year was no exception.

Donning Dior Couture, the sheer train and invisible straps were heavenly.

Finished to perfection by Harry Winston jewels, what can I say?

Absolutely flawless.

I loved Kelly Osbourne in Badgley Mischka.

What a stunning shape!

The gorgeous gold lace caplet finished the look off beautifully.

And personally I love her purple hair!

She is quirky while being classic and a little retro in her choices.

Always fun to watch.

Kate Hudson was outstanding in silver Atelier Versace.

A plunging neckline and draped caplet were absolutely fabulous.

They showed off her beauteous body faultlessly.

Dead sexy!

Karen O from one of my favourite bands the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, looked like she had been dipped in black ink.

Draped in a figure hugging black silk/satin by Camilla Staerk and jewels by Forevermark, she rocked the red carpet.

I adored the simplicity of her choice.

But I have to say my fashion Oscar goes to the beautiful Lupita Nyong’o , who in pale blue Prada, looked like a princess.

This was polished perfection, and the headband topped it off. The only thing better than this impeccable gown was her eloquent thank you speech.

Winning an Oscar for best supporting actress for “12 Years A Slave”, Lupita Nyong’o has proven herself throughout this awards season, not only for her brilliant acting, but her sartorial choices.

I can’t wait to see her next move, both on and off the silver screen.Red

I’ll give a special mention to Camila Alves, Matthew McConaughey’s wife, looking sublime in pale pink by Gabriela Cadena and Lorraine Schwartz earrings, Anne Hathaway in black and silver Gucci, and Emma Watson in Vera Wang.

I love the Oscars and the fashion that surrounds them.

Who was your best dressed this year? I would love to know.

Thank you for such a lovely, and positive, round up of this years oscars fashion! So much else written out there was just all negative and bitchy – I actually unfollowed Mamamia on twitter due to the stream of nasty comments on Oscars day – but this blog captured the gorgeousness of the fashion event perfectly.

Thanks Ella, I like to write in a positive way, and believe in the old saying “if you don’t have anything nice to say, say nothing”! Hope you enjoy more stories on Fashion Elixir and the Circle. Regards Jo
