The Reading Hour – 19th August 2014, a National Event

Reading 6The Reading Hour all over Australia will be held Tuesday 19th August 2014. On this day for one hour of our lives we have been asked to set aside time and read aloud to a child.

Baby-Reading-Screen-01For any child, life is a creative adventure as it should be for adults too. Singing and reading aloud to children helps children to embrace the concept of reading as integral to their life journey, whether its printed in a book, on a tablet or computer. It’s the action of reading that is most important.

Reading 4You should also start reading aloud to a child from the moment it is born. Renowned Australian literacy consultant Mem Fox author of the book for parents ‘Reading Magic’ tells us that all children need 1000 stories read aloud to them before they learn to read for themselves.

Family-ReadingLiteracy is language in use and you will help them to develop their understanding of speech and how important it will be throughout their life to express themselves and to communicate with others.

Young-Adult-ReadingReading requires a continuum of learning. It also enables an individual to achieve his or her goals, to develop his or her knowledge and potential, and to participate fully in the wider society.

Reading-Jane-Austen-2You are never too old to read, learn or to participate in society. Join the movement that Love2Read!
