“In a world blurred by virtual realities, Resort 17 presents a woman unafraid of peeling back the facades around her to reveal unlimited dimensions of truth.”
Welcome to Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia 2016, and what a start to the week it was!
Some of my favourite people were there, including talented photographer Romualdo Nubla, Studio MOR, who was kind enough to capture moi for my memories!
The setting for the first runway show of 2016 was the stunning Barangaroo on the Sydney, Australia foreshore
A stunning natural rock wall was perfectly juxtaposed by a sleek white stage and dramatic lighting, no props were needed, just fabulous fashion.
Toni Maticevski is a master of cut, and this resort collection didn’t disappoint.
But for me it was about the colour and the fabrics.
Gorgeous gowns, perfectly fitted pants, provocative bustiers and beautifully cut pencil skirts were all on show.
Totally adored the colour palette, especially the yolky yellows and powered blues mixed with Gothic black laser cut cloth.
Stunning draping was on point, something Maticevski does so well and the bonded micro pleating was superb.
Washed cotton was fresh and light, while twisted chain mail brought us all back to the dark side of the story.
Something that he has embraced in this 2017 Resort collection.
From the hair by Renya Xydis for Wella, make up by Nigel Stanislau for Maybelline, shoes by Casadei and absolutely magnificent jewellery by Ryan Storer, this production was a dream.
And I must talk about the jewellery.
It was a very “woman in chains” feel.
Crystal handcuffs and beaded mouth pieces had a very “bondage” feel.
Against the light fabrics it was a gorgeous contrast.
The Maticevski woman has grown up, and she’s not all sugar and spice!
I feel Toni has embraced a more grown up silhouette from last years collection, which I adored.
He is evolving his aesthetic in such a sophisticated way, so exciting to see.
“Unapologetically sexy, she knows that the distorted, even sinister darkness within yields the most powerful kind of clarity.
Suspended and weightless in a world of cosmic, untold layers, she causes an undeniable ripple in the delicately woven matrix around her.”
Such is the world of Toni Maticevski, and I’m loving his universe!
